On Friday 20 June, Cantab Asset Management was delighted to support the annual Varsity Cricket match. David Saunderson, Chief Executive, and Roger Knight, President of the Cambridge University Cricket Club and former Chief Executive of the MCC, participated in the presentation of caps to the new Blues players for the men’s and women’s matches.
In the men’s match Oxford elected to bowl, having won the toss, due to a fresh, green Lord’s wicket. Cambridge finished with a strong last wicket partnership of 41 to end on 177 after 50 overs. Oxford found themselves on 83-7 as Cambridge bowled exceptionally well. At 137-9 the game looked set for a Cambridge win until Haines (Oxford number 9) hit 61 from 44 balls and won the match with a six on the first ball of the last over!
It was a dramatic end to a great day watching the Blues battle it out at the home of cricket.
