Paul Drechsler, President of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), gave an encouraging address in the Cambridge Union on 1 May 2018. The dinner marks Paul’s final visit to the region as head of the organisation, and provided a unique opportunity to engage in top level discussion, with members attending from across the region and representing businesses from all sectors and sizes.
Paul talked about the latest from Brussels and Westminster and gave an update on CBI’s policy and campaign work. British business will do fine, he said, citing the trading and manufacturing skill base supported by the remarkable service infrastructure in the UK. As Chair of Teach First he said his other passion was education.
David Saunderson, Chief Executive of Cantab Asset Management commented that the President’s commanding view of the UK economy was inciteful and reflected an underlying confidence in the strength of the economy despite the ups and downs of political debate.
